Mumbai: WE all know well how after having faced a lot of backlash on social media for building unrealistic beauty standards and stereotyping skin tones in India, Hindustan Unilever Limited's 'Fair & Lovely' renamed the brand to 'Glow & Lovely' a year ago. But how could it become possible?

Well, the credit goes to Chandana Hiran, a feminist and a CA finalist from Mumbai, who is also an advocate of body positivity and an Instagram page by the name of that_desi_feminist and engages in conversations around gender equality. Chandana started a petition asking IIFA Awards to make a statement against objectification of women at its 2019 award show. Her petition garnered a lot of attention with more than 54,000 signatures. Her second petition smashed colourism when she asked "Fair and Lovely" to be more inclusive in their products. They transformed their branding to 'Glow and Lovely'.

Chandana is one of the 11 changemakers that have been featured in the book, 'Changemakers'. The book, being released in Mumbai on October 19 is a collection of stories of 11 Women changemakers from the 'She Creates Change' programme from Change.org. These women started petitions on Change.org, stirred a citizens' movement and turned it into a powerful development. Each story encapsulates the life journeys of these powerful women and the making of a changemaker; beautifully

with incidents, real facts and emotions. Noted Bollywood actor, Tapsi Pannu has written her foreword in the book.

Almas Virani, co-author of the book, says, "With a vision to empower normal citizens to bring about change, we wrote this book. This book is an anthology of 11 women changemakers from Change.org's flagship programme called 'She Creates Change' programme. Each story includes their personal life journey and their stories of change through their online petitions."

The book will be unveiled at Crosswords Store, Juhu, Mumbai, in the presence of associates from Change.org India, social crusaders, influencers and mediapersons.

'She Creates Change' is a training programme from Change.org that brings together women from across India, helping them build winning campaigns and movements. Through this programme, we want to see champions change the narrative on women and girl's issues, such as women's representation in the media, women's rights in the workplace, safety in public spaces and recognition for single mothers.

Another co-author of the book, Sweta Samota is India's leading book coach and a software engineer turned bestselling author. She has helped 1000+ individuals to build their legacy through books. She is also a changemaker with change.org and led campaign #SwacchMarathon to victory asking Tata Mumbai Marathon to devise solutions to stop open peeing on Worli Sea Link Road during the marathon. She is a passionate runner and guides women of her locality under Pinkathon Ghansoli, India. A regular marathoner, she runs and organises them too.
